There’s a lot of opportunity for your children to learn about math, science, history and the environment at the seven Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces.
The Wake County Parks mission is to "acquire and maintain a system of natural areas, open spaces, park facilities, and historic sites that promote environmental and cultural stewardship as well as provide educational and leisure opportunities for all county citizens."
Each park includes a variety of activities from hiking, fishing, sailing and environmental education. Watch a waterwheel turn at Lake Wheeler on the last remaining gristmill in Wake County. Look up with binoculars to check out the numerous bird species or discovery insect, reptiles, the flora and fauna at your feet.

Blue Jay Point County Park is a 236-acre park located on the shores of Falls Lake in northern Wake County. Blue Jay Point's mission is to offer environmental education programming in a natural setting.
Lake Crabtree County Park, 1400 Aviation Parkway, Morrisville, NC 27560
Located adjacent to a 520-acre flood control lake, visitors can enjoy a variety of exciting opportunities including fishing, boating, and hiking, picnicking, mountain biking and nature study.

Historic Oak View County Park is a 19th-century historic farmstead with a mission to interpret the agricultural heritage and rural history of North Carolina through educational programs, special events and exhibits.
North Wake Landfill District Park, 9300 Deponie Drive, Raleigh, NC 27614
A day at North Wake Landfill District Park provides a variety of recreational activities for all ages. The Park opened in 2010 to serve nearby communities.
American Tobacco Trail, 2112 County Park Drive, Apex, NC 27502
The Wake County portion of the American Tobacco Trail is a recreational rail-trail open to walkers, runners, dog walkers, bicyclists and horseback riders. Currently, Wake County has 6.5 miles open and Durham County manages a 7.4-mile section.
Crowder District Park, 4709 Ten Ten Road, Apex, NC 27539
Located on 33 acres of landscaped grounds and hardwood forests, Crowder District Park offers citizens a variety of recreational and educational opportunities.
Harris Lake Park, 2112 County Park Dr., New Hill, NC 27562
The 680-acre park is situated on a peninsula near the Shearon Harris Reservoir in New Hill, N.C. – and is convenient to Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina.
