Teen Advisory Board

Grades 10 & 11 (in 2013-2014 school year)  The Teen Advisory Board is a unique opportunity for students to contribute their voice as the Museum explores ways to connect teens with science learning and research. The board will be working directly with Dr. Meg Lowman, Director of the Nature Research Center and hosting monthly Teen Science Cafes. The experience will also include personal interactions with research mentors from area universities and industry and a chance to share information with peers and the public. Rising tenth graders with an interest in science, technology, and leadership are encouraged to apply. The Board meets twice per month from 4–6pm (day of the week to be determined) and runs through the school year (early September through early June). A planning retreat will happen in mid August. The term of this board will be one school year with an invitation to stay on a second school year, if desired.  Applications are due May 15th.  For more information, please contact Lynn Cross, Coordinator of Youth Programs, at 919.707.9882   http://naturalsciences.org/programs-events/youth-science-programs

3D MOVIES SHOWN DAILY - Check for exact times-showings vary daily - WRAL 3D Theater, 1st floor - purchased onsite (same day only) at the Box Office, or you online

Titans of the Ice Ages 3D “Titans of the Ice Age” transports viewers to the beautiful and other worldy frozen landscapes of North America, Europe and Asia ten thousand years before modern civilization. Peer through the 3D canvas to an ancient world of ice when man shared the tundra with majestic woolly beasts.

The Last Reef 3D
Fly across iridescent tropical reefs, brush through a cloud of a million jellyfish, visit an alien world where the closer you look, the more you see.  We think of reefs as exotic, distant places with little connection to our everyday world. Yet there are many kinds of reef, each of them a living city beneath the sea, where plants and animals congregate in mutual benefit. They have a parallel existence to ours, distant yet undoubtedly connected.

Space Junk 3D
What goes up doesn't always come down.  After 50 years of launching our dreams into space, we’re left w/a troubling legacy: a growing ring of orbiting debris that casts a shadow over the future of space exploration. Space Junk 3D is a visually explosive, sensory expanding voyage into our now-threatened Final Frontier. Experience mindboggling collisions, both natural & manmade.  Soar from the stunning depths of Meteor Crater to an unprecedented view of our increasingly crowded orbits -- 22,000 miles above Earth. Join us as the foremost expert, also known as the "Father of Space Junk," guides us through the challenges we face in protecting them, forging a new age of space discovery.

Dinosaurs Alive 3D Dinosaurs Alive is a global adventure of science & discovery, reincarnating the earliest creatures of the Triassic to the monsters of the Cretaceous – life-sized & life-like.  Audiences will marvel at these great creatures of the past brought roaring to life in 3D.  Journey w/renowned paleontologists as they hunt for fossilized clues buried in  Mongolia’s Gobi Desert & Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, uncovering evidence that dinosaur descendants may still walk (or fly) among us today. Realistic & scientifically-accurate computer generated animation brings dinosaurs back to life…in a big way!  20 minutes long
