Nikon Small World Photography Exhibit   April 19 thru June 16  The Museum will host an exhibit of the winners of the 2012 Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition. Come and see the top 20 breathtaking photos taken through a microscope. The Museum is the only North Carolina venue on the North American tour. Free with admission, located in Keva gallery.

Bug Safari   Two Saturdays, June 8 and 22   |   11:30 am

Take the train to go on a woodland insect safari with the Museum’s entomologist! Explore bug hide-outs, find and identify insects and their habitats. Special limited opportunity to go behind the scenes! $10 per person, pre-registration recommended.  Purchase TIckets

 

Summer Programs in The Lab  June 11 – August 24, Tuesdays – Saturdays  | Extended Lab Hours 10:30 am – 4:30 pm

Grab your safety goggles and step into the Lab this summer! Try a different experiment every day, from testing drinks for vitamin C to tinkering with the latest tech toys. Pick up an official Summer Science stamp card to start earning science prizes, and don’t forget to stop by during our science shows and bi-weekly Meet a Scientist program to talk to professional scientists from around the Triangle. Free with admission.


Blast Off!   New! -- Opening June 15

Launch rockets or try out your own flying apparatus with wind tubes and helipad tables.  Turbo-charge your paper airplane with our launcher and test how fay your creations will fly.  The new launch lab in our Aerospace exhibit puts you in charge of design and launch!

 

Build-It Bamboo  June 15–30 | Monday thru Saturday | 10am–3pm | Sunday |12pm–3pm

Make a masterpiece from one of the world’s most versatile plants. Will you construct a shelter to survive on a desert island, or create an abstract art installation? Your imagination is the only limit at our bamboo building bonanza!  More Information to come!

 

Science of Risk    June 20   |   6–9pm   |   ADULTS 21+ ONLY

What happens in your brain when you hit the slot machines? Why do you get a rush when you touch a slithering snake? Explore the neuroscience behind our social behaviors, fears, and karaoke choices at Science of Risk. Join us at the museum for cold beers, food trucks, music, and SCIENCE!
