Into the Mist - Opened June 30
Get wet and stay cool in the mist
There is something mysterious about mist. Experience the lure of this phenomenon and watch as droplets of water suspended in air form clouds which hover over small valleys. Listen to the rhythmic sounds of rain as it falls upon rock. Stroll through the lush green landscape and watch as rainbows appear then disappear. Stack stones, make sand sculptures or just sit, cool-off, and observe the beauty and awe of mist, landforms and rock. The Larry and Sharon Crane PlayScape

Watermelon Day | Friday, August 3
What's better on a hot summer day than a slice of cold watermelon?  Join us Aug 3rd as we celebrate National Watermelon Day!  Enjoy special meet the keeper sessions throughout the day and watch as our lemurs and farmyard animals receive frozen watermelon "pops" while our bears swim for whole watermelons!  Learn how our keepers use watermelons as enrichment tools, how melon "pops" are made and the many ways our keepers use melons!

Fridays Made Easy | $5 after 5pm every 4th Friday!  (8/24, 9/28) | $5 after 5pm
Explore our 84-acre science park and enjoy our newst attraction, Into the Mist (opening June 30).  Head to Magic Wings Butterfly House tgo see exotric butterflies and tropical plants from around the world.  Take a stroll to Explore the Wild to see rescued black b ears, lemurs, and endangered red wolves.  Visit Dinosaur Trail to see life-size dinosaurs situated along a winding forest path and dig for and keep fossels that are 23-million to 5-million years old. Other attraqctions include a farmyard, Ellerbe Creek Railway, a sailboat pond, Investigate Health, Plat to Learn, an exhibit for children under six, more than 110 species of live animals and so much more. Don't feel like preparing dinner?  Grab a bite to eat at the Museum's new Sprout Cafe.  (Last Date September 28, 2012)

Engineers Day: How Things Work | Saturday, August 11 | 10 am – 4 pm | Included with admission
Join Museum Staff and Volunteers and professional engineers and engineering students from all over the Triangle for a day of hands-on engineering activities as we celebrate our version of E-Week (Engineer's Week)!

Black Light Insect Hunt | Friday, August 17 | 8:30–11 pm | $5 general, $3 kids under 10
Enjoy the sounds and sights of a summer night in the Museum's wetland. Specially-installed black lights attract insects to the screens set up on the board walk. See and learn with our specialists what flies at night, from small to large beetles, moths and other critters.

Museum AfterHours: Science of Beer | Thursday, September 13 | 6–9 pm | $15 members; $18 Public
Taste hoppy, malty samples from over ten local breweries. Coozies so well crafted your beer never looked so good. Explore the chemistry of fermentation and the physics of beer pong. This year’s Science of Beer will have you raising your glass. Cheers, "TO SCIENCE!"

Museum AfterHours: Heroes and Villains After Dark | Friday, September 21 | 6–9 pm  | $7
Here’s your chance to learn the secrets behind the film and entertainment industry. Learn about special effects, attend panel discussions, visit the comic book swap and create your own costumes. Grab a bite at one of the food trucks. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase.

Heroes, Villains and Special Effects | September 22 | 10 am – 5 pm | Included in admission
Explore the science behind entertainment and meet experts in the fields of special effects, make up artistry, film production, sound editing and effects, video game design and simulation, comic book art and staged combat.
