The North Carolina Museum of Art is truly a gem in the Raleigh area! This expansive museum offers a collection of permanent and temporary exhibits as well as sprawling outdoor grounds sprinkled with various art structures and sculptures. Every time we take the kids, we end up spending the entire day leisurely exploring the exhibits and galleries. The docents are extremely engaging and knowledgeable, always willing to answer any questions we have.

The West Building

This building houses a permanent collection of priceless works of art.  A self-tour through this building will take you through the American Gallery, the Classical Gallery, the Modern and Contemporary Gallery, the Egyptian Gallery, the European Gallery, the Judaic Art Gallery and the Rodin Gallery.  Outside this building you'll discover the lily-pad covered reflection pond in the Rodin Garden that makes for a lovely photo opp.  The West Building also holds the Sip Coffee Bar & Café along with the museum gift shop.

The East Building

A few steps from the West Building lies the East Building of the Art Museum. This is where you will find the rotating special exhibits, the African Gallery and additional smaller galleries.  The Exhibition Café is also located in this building, with menu items that correspond to the special exhibits on display.

The Museum Grounds

You can spend hours wandering the outside trails that surround the museum!  Pack a picnic, take a bike ride, or simple stroll these expansive grounds.  Click Here to download an Outdoor Scavenger Hunt of the museum grounds.

In addition to the galleries, the museum offers a variety of special programs, music events, summer camps and other activities. For more information on family-fun offerings at NCMA visit http://ncartmuseum.org/programs_and_events/view/youth_families.
