Overview:

Prairie Ridge is an outpost of the North Carolina Museum of Science. It provides a hands-on outdoor learning space to enhance one’s appreciation of the natural environment. There are 45 acres of Piedmont prairie, a forest, ponds, a stream and sustainable building features integrated with a wildlife-friendly landscape at Prairie Ridge.

The Ecostation and Activities:

Kids of all ages will love spending time in the great outdoors for hikes, bird watching, play time and nature programs.  The stand-out feature of Prairie Ridge is the Nature Play Space. It’s a short walk through the woods to get to the PlaySpace and the outdoor amphitheater. We recommend dressing kids in play clothes when visiting the Nature Play Space. They are sure to love making mud pies in the "kitchen", searching for fossils in the rock bed, digging through the sandbox, and building fairy homes. There is also a little woodland hunt for imaginative play, an underground tunnel, and signs all over offerings play ideas to spark creativity.

Pre-Covid, Prairie Ridge had regularly scheduled classes and programs, both for kids and adults. At the time of writing, they are still only offering virtual programs but we hope to see their in-person events return soon!

Prairie Ridge Ecostation is the perfect place to explore nature and for kids to burn off some energy. With so many different offerings to take advantage of at Prairie Ridge, it's a great place to put on your adventure rotation!
