We recently spent a lovely morning at Logan’s One Stop Garden Shop, a true piece of Raleigh history with a beautiful atmosphere. Logan’s is located at the site of what used to be Raleigh’s very first train station. The original station building still stands and some of the station equipment is still utilized, often uniquely, by the garden shop. For example, the vintage luggage carts from the station are now used as carts to carry pallets of plants and flower pots. The old luggage scales now weigh produce and flower pallets (or children, see below). This rich history is part of what makes Logan’s a remarkable place to visit.

Logan’s boasts a massive selection of everything you could possibly need to begin or maintain your garden. The interior of the original train station building is divided into different shopping areas: a specialty gift shop (with toys too!), seasonal decor, a general store, garden supplies, bulbs and seeds, and a greenhouse. The greenhouse in particular will interest most young children, with a fairy garden section and a babbling koi pond with live fish! Our kids spent quite a bit of time in this area watching the fish swim around the glass bubble in the pond.

Stepping outdoors to the south side of the building is the seasonal selection of live plants and flowers, for example in the fall you can find pumpkins and mums and in the winter, Christmas trees abound. The north side of the station features the tree nursery along with another lovely koi pond. We enjoyed wandering this area guessing the names of the trees and watching the fish in the pond. The old railroad is also visible from this outdoor section, and we were told trains still ride on the tracks to a nearby cleaning station.
The staff at Logan's is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. If you have any questions on planting, proper care, or choosing the right flowers, you only have to ask! Their website also stays updated with classes and additional services intended to help people learn about garden care. The folks at Logan's genuinely care about our community, which can be seen most clearly through their Plant A Row program, a unique community effort to reduce hunger.
A trip to Logan's isn't complete without a stop at The Seaboard Cafe, located inside near the gift shop. The Seaboard cafe serves up delicious breakfast and lunch items with indoor and outdoors seating!
