Our fall family tradition for the last three years has always included a trip to a local pumpkin patch. With our “new normal” of COVID-19, we did lose some options to visit this year.
My husband and I happened to see a flyer for a grand opening and decided to visit a new location in Zebulon, Lazy Hound Farms. Opening day at Lazy Hound was very busy. The line for tickets to ride the hayrides was snaked through the parking lot! We decided to bypass the hayrides and visit the activities inside. My son really enjoyed the construction toys in the giant sandbox and the huge tunnel downhill slide! The playground area was plenty big enough for the children to enjoyed while not being on top of one another with adult supervision.
Lazy Hound has large sheltered picnic tables if you need a place to rest or enjoy the food vendors. The “mom party planner” side of me couldn’t help but think, the area would be great for outdoor birthday parties as well. I enjoyed browsing all the local vendor tents. They also had quite a few food vendors/options available. Face painting could be found on the avenue where the craft vendors were stationed.
The pumpkin patch area had plenty to offer as far as sizes go. From perfect for our toddlers to carry to “hope you brought a wagon” size. My family enjoyed petting the farm animals that wanted to socialize and watching the Corn Cannon. For an extra fee you can shoot high powered corn cobs to the animals on the pasture!
We purchased 3 pumpkins since we didn’t get to do the hayride. There’s a lot to do for $8 a ticket! Our daughters got in for free since they are under the age of 2. Lazy Hound was a Saturday well spent! We will be back for the flash light corn maze in the coming weeks.
