Golden Mummies of Egypt Exhibit at North Carolina Musueum of Art

By Nicki Medford, Publisher at Macaroni Kid Raleigh March 19, 2021

North Carolina Museum of Art has reopened its doors to the public, at limited capacity and with mask mandates in place. We recently checked out their new special exhibit, Golden Mummies of Egypt, and it was a really neat experience for the whole family!

We'd learned about ancient Egypt in our homeschool studies earlier this school year so my kids, ages 8 and 10, were really excited to see real mummies and artifacts from this period.

The museum has done a great job in making the exhibit interesting and interactive, while still taking into account Covid-19 precautions. For example, at the start of the exhibit, each person in our party received a stylus. This was to be used on the touch-screens featuring interactive information and games.

We spent a great deal of time exploring the exhibit.  I loved seeing my kids make connections between what we'd learned in our studies and what they were seeing first-hand.

The museum's permanent collections and galleries were also open and we spent the rest of our morning visiting familiar pieces that we hadn't seen in over a year.  My kids love looking at art! It warmed my heart to see the excitement in their eyes when they found their favorite paintings, or remembered information they'd learned on past trips to NCMA.

We're very happy that the museum is open!

Please Note: The Museum is open with updated hours, Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm and required free timed tickets for the Museum collection galleries to encourage social distancing. Learn more about these and other safety updates at ncartmuseum.org/covid19. Entry to special exhibition Golden Mummies of Egypt requires a paid ticket, which also provides access to the free Museum collection galleries. Free timed tickets to the Museum galleries do not provide access to Golden Mummies of Egypt.
