Delray Beach, FL: The Momcation Destination

By Nicki Medford, Publisher at Macaroni Kid Raleigh April 30, 2021

Winter seemed to last for-e-ver here in Raleigh. I’d been longing for steady sunshine and warm weather and was thrilled to learn that my fellow Macaroni Kid publisher-turned-close friend from New Jersey had been feeling the same way.  We knew Florida would be incredible this time of year, so we reached out to yet another Macaroni Kid publisher in Delray Beach, FL to see if she was up for some company.  Sidebar: in case you didn’t know, Macaroni Kid is a national publication, so our publisher moms are everywhere!  Through trips, conferences and our online forums, I’ve had the privilege of growing close with many publishers around the US.  Several of our in-person Macaroni Kid opportunities were cancelled in 2020, so we were really looking forward to reconnecting with each other.

With the stars (and our busy schedules) aligning, we met up in beautiful Delray Beach, FL for some work collaboration and play-time in the glorious sun.  The first two days of our trip was spent mostly working, brainstorming ideas for our publications, and catching up with one another.  We had planned this trip to reconnect but we always wanted to commit time to supporting each other in our Macaroni Kid businesses.

By Day 2, we were ready for the fun to begin. We ventured into Delray Beach’s hot spot, Atlantic Avenue.  Brimming with restaurants, shops, and palm trees, Atlantic Avenue screams vacation.

To start off the evening, we enjoyed drinks and old-school arcade games at the eclectic Silverball Museum. This place was awesome!  The admission includes unlimited game play for dozens of vintage arcade games. There was great energy, delicious food, and friendly staff, making for a fun girls night out.

The rest of the evening was spent walking along the streets, enjoying the views, warm night-time weather, and water-front seating at a local restaurant.

The next day we headed to the beach for a full day in the sun.  First, we stopped by the Sandoway Discovery Center. This is a really neat, educational spot to get up close and personal with turtles, fishes, and sharks. They even have a butterfly pavilion!

After checking out the marine life at Sandoway, we headed to the beach.  Our beach day was made perfect by Oceanside Beach Services, where we were provided lounge chairs and a private cabana to soak in the ocean breeze.  This service is awesome, and alleviates the need to tote a thousand-and-three items through the sand.  We loved having the shade and a designated spot by the water.

Saturday evening, we ventured about 30 minutes north of Delray to West Palm Beach for another spectacular evening. Our dinner at City Cellar Bar & Grille was amazing and I fell in love with the enchanting Rosemary Square shopping plaza.  This was just the ambience for a ladies night out that we needed.

Having a chance to visit Florida and spend much-needed girl time with my girls was so revitalizing after a really crazy year.  We’re already planning our next trip out to Delray Beach but this time I think we'll bring the kids. :)
