As a busy mom of four, I’m always looking for quick, easy and healthy snacks. We are on the go constantly and I love snacks that the kids love, that are easy to grab, and that are healthy.
So many times we’ve carried snacks that spill and make a huge mess. That means a mess for mom to clean up ... and leaves the kids still hungry. I prefer a snack that is not only convenient, but will leave my kids energized to get through all their after-school activities.
I found a snack that checked those boxes recently at my local Aldi: SnapDragon apples.

SnapDragon apples also make some tasty applesauce. My kids LOVE this applesauce! All you need are four simple ingredients to make delicious applesauce.
- 3 pounds of SnapDragon apples
- 1/3 cup water
- 2-4 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Peel, core, and chop apples.
- Combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, simmer and cover.
- Cook 15-20 minutes (until the apples are very soft). Remove the lid and allow to simmer for 5 minutes to thicken.
- Mash apples down until you get your desired consistency.
- Serve applesauce warm or chilled.
Tip: If you'd like to use a crockpot instead, set it on low for about 3 hours.
While we do enjoy pairing with other snacks and adding toppings to our apples, we really love SnapDragon apples just the way they are.
